Favourite Colour: Purple!
Last Song: "Zehenaseeb" from the Hindi film Hasee toh Phasee. Composers are Vishal Dadlani-Shekhar Ravjiani, and singers are Chinmayi and Shekhar Ravjiani.

Sweet/Spicy/Savoury: I have a major sweet tooth, but when it rains I do love a hot savoury snack like a pakora or a samosa xD
Currently Working On:
The next essay in the Hana Lee: A Study in Erasure series
Some story ideas for HYAW
The next chapter of Eleanor's Kitchen
The first chapter of Three and a Half Weeks
A bit of research for a new meta idea on the alternative LI "relationships" in TRR (Liam and Olivia, Drake and Kiara, Hana and Madeleine, briefly Maxwell and Penelope). Basically on what canon already presents, why they didn't happen, and how fandom responded to them. Idk if I'll actually go forward with it, but if enough people are interested I'll try doing it after HYAW and LSAW.

Voices That Shaped Bollywood’s Musical Landscape
Bollywood’s musical landscape has evolved over several decades, reflecting the cultural, social, and artistic shifts that have defined India’s cinematic heritage. Within this vast soundscape are the voices that have not only guided listeners through different eras but have also shaped the very identity of Hindi film music. These voices, whether belonging to classic legends or contemporary innovators, serve as touchstones that inform how the industry grows, adapts, and thrives. In an environment where vocal delivery, emotional resonance, and technical mastery all converge, it is the gifted singers and composers who push the boundaries of what Bollywood music can represent. By examining the contributions of iconic figures, one can better understand both the roots and the fruits of this beloved musical tradition.
The Timeless Elegance of Mohammed Aziz At the heart of Bollywood’s golden era stands a figure whose presence and voice continue to evoke nostalgia and admiration. Mohammed Aziz was more than just a playback singer; he was a storyteller who conveyed emotions that transcended language and time. His resonance and vocal control brought depth to the films he lent his voice to. Aziz’s voice combined warmth and power, enabling him to deliver both romantic ballads and devotional songs with equal finesse. From the grand orchestral arrangements of the 1980s and 1990s to the soft, intimate pieces that remain evergreen, his songs reflect an era where melody reigned supreme and sincerity in singing was paramount. His work laid a foundation on which future generations would build, ensuring that musical quality and emotional authenticity remained central to Bollywood’s sonic identity.
Amit Trivedi: The Futuristic Innovator In contrast to the traditional soundscapes of yesteryear, modern Bollywood has witnessed a surge of experimental artistry. At the forefront of this evolution is Amit Trivedi, a composer who embraces innovation, fusing classical Indian elements with contemporary global influences. His compositions feature an eclectic mix of instrumentation, arrangements, and vocal styles that challenge audiences’ expectations. By crafting soundtracks that blend rock guitars, electronica, folk tunes, and Hindustani classical motifs, Trivedi has positioned himself as a trendsetter. He proves that Bollywood music can grow and flourish by constantly seeking new paths. His approach showcases how a forward-looking mindset can celebrate tradition while transcending it, inspiring emerging artists to experiment with their own creative visions.
Sadhana Sargam: A Voice of Grace and Continuity If one voice embodies timeless versatility, it is that of Sadhana Sargam. Throughout the decades, Sargam’s singing has maintained a quality that effortlessly adapts to changing musical trends. Whether singing a classical raga-based piece or a contemporary pop-influenced track, her technical precision, impeccable diction, and emotional subtlety remain constant. Her voice, refined by years of training, not only defined entire film soundtracks but also influenced budding singers who looked up to her nuanced performances. Sargam’s longevity highlights the importance of consistent excellence and the ability to navigate evolving industry landscapes. Her contributions remind us that at the core of Bollywood music’s charm lies the intrinsic power of a skilled vocalist who can connect across generations.
Vishal-Shekhar: The Dynamic Duo Redefining Sound Bollywood’s musical tapestry is also enriched by partnerships that merge individual talents into a cohesive creative force. The duo of Vishal-Shekhar embodies the essence of collaboration in an industry that thrives on synergy. Their approach marries Vishal Dadlani’s rock-influenced sensibilities with Shekhar Ravjiani’s melodic finesse, resulting in compositions that resonate across age groups. From upbeat dance numbers that become party anthems to soulful ballads that tug at heartstrings, their music reflects the broad emotional spectrum Bollywood aims to cover. With an ear for modern production values and a respect for traditional melodies, Vishal-Shekhar prove that dual creativity can amplify innovation, ensuring that Bollywood’s musical lexicon remains both accessible and fresh.
Javed Ali: The Soulful Depth of Modern Melody In a rapidly changing industry, the soulfulness of a voice can still anchor listeners and evoke deep emotions. Javed Ali serves as a perfect example of a singer whose artistry lies in his ability to infuse heartfelt sincerity into every note. Ali’s voice, characterized by its smooth texture and emotional warmth, adds dimension to modern soundtracks. Whether portraying love, longing, or spiritual devotion, he ensures that the essence of each lyric is felt rather than just heard. As Bollywood continues to embrace technological advancements and genre-blending, Ali’s performances remind us that genuine feeling will forever remain at the heart of memorable music. His success illustrates how the human element in singing is irreplaceable, even as the industry evolves.
Conclusion Bollywood’s musical landscape is defined by its capacity to adapt, innovate, and pay homage to its heritage. The voices that have shaped it—such as Mohammed Aziz’s timeless resonance, Amit Trivedi’s inventive genius, Sadhana Sargam’s enduring grace, Vishal-Shekhar’s collaborative dynamism, and Javed Ali’s soulful magnetism—reflect the industry’s multifaceted nature. These artists stand as benchmarks, demonstrating how the interplay of tradition and innovation ensures that Bollywood’s music remains ever-relevant. As we look toward the future of Hindi film music, we can be certain that the legacy of these voices will continue to guide new talent, inspire bold experimentation, and enchant audiences, preserving the powerful connection between melody, emotion, and storytelling that defines Bollywood’s musical tapestry.

Vishal Dadlani: A Voice for Social Change
Vishal Dadlani is a name synonymous with modern Indian music, transcending the boundaries of Bollywood, independent music, and global collaborations. As one-half of the renowned music duo Vishal-Shekhar and the frontman of India’s iconic electronica rock band Pentagram, Vishal has redefined how we perceive and consume music in India. His unmistakable voice, trailblazing compositions, and electrifying stage presence have made him a cultural icon for an entire generation. But what makes Vishal Dadlani the voice of this era? This article explores his journey, influence, and what makes him a musical force to be reckoned with.
The Beginnings of a Legend
Vishal Dadlani’s journey into the world of music began in the bustling city of Mumbai, where he was born and raised. Like many artists, his love for music was evident from an early age. However, it was during his college years that his passion truly took form. He co-founded Pentagram in 1994, a band that would go on to become a cornerstone of India’s independent music scene. Pentagram’s experimental sound, blending rock, electronica, and indie influences, quickly earned them a cult following.
Vishal’s unique ability to connect with audiences, both lyrically and emotionally, was evident even in those early days. Songs like “Voice” and “Tomorrow’s Decided” showcased a depth and vision that set him apart from the mainstream. Through Pentagram, Vishal established himself as a rebel in a country where Bollywood music dominated the charts.
Bollywood and Beyond: The Vishal-Shekhar Magic
While Pentagram gave Vishal a strong foothold in indie music, Bollywood came calling in 1999 when he teamed up with Shekhar Ravjiani to form the dynamic duo Vishal-Shekhar. Their debut project, Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, introduced the industry to their fresh and innovative sound.
It wasn’t long before Vishal-Shekhar became one of Bollywood’s most sought-after music directors. Their compositions in movies like Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, and Student of the Year became instant hits. What made their music stand out was their ability to blend contemporary global sounds with traditional Indian melodies. Tracks like “Tumhi Ho Bandhu,” “Sheila Ki Jawani,” and “Deewangi Deewangi” became anthems of their time, dominating airwaves and dance floors.
A Voice That Resonates Across Generations
As a singer, Vishal Dadlani’s powerful and versatile voice is his hallmark. Whether it’s the high-energy “Bachna Ae Haseeno” or the emotionally charged “Jeene Ke Hai Chaar Din,” his voice carries an energy that is unmistakably his. What truly sets him apart is his ability to adapt to different genres. From peppy dance numbers to soulful ballads, Vishal’s vocal prowess knows no bounds.
His live performances are equally captivating. Whether performing at a massive music festival with Pentagram or belting out Bollywood hits at concerts, Vishal’s stage presence is magnetic. He doesn’t just sing; he engages, electrifies, and connects with his audience, leaving them spellbound.
Pioneering Independent Music in India
While Vishal has achieved incredible success in Bollywood, he has never abandoned his indie roots. Pentagram remains active, continuing to push boundaries in India’s independent music scene. Through Pentagram, Vishal has inspired countless young musicians to embrace their individuality and pursue their creative visions outside mainstream structures.
In addition, Vishal has collaborated with various independent artists and international icons, further expanding his musical repertoire. Collaborations with global stars like Diplo, The Vamps, and Akon highlight his ability to bridge cultures and genres seamlessly.
Social Advocacy Through Music
Beyond his contributions to music, Vishal Dadlani has used his platform to advocate for social change. He has been vocal about issues ranging from environmental conservation to political transparency. His fearless stance on social and political issues reflects his belief that artists have a responsibility to engage with the world around them.
In songs like “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara,” Vishal celebrates unity and diversity, emphasizing the power of music to bring people together. Whether it’s through his work as a judge on reality shows like Indian Idol or his candid social media presence, Vishal ensures that his voice resonates far beyond the realm of entertainment.
A Global Icon for the Modern Era
What makes Vishal Dadlani the voice of a generation is his unparalleled ability to stay relevant in an ever-changing industry. By constantly evolving his style, embracing new challenges, and collaborating with artists across the globe, he has ensured that his music remains fresh and impactful.
His influence extends far beyond India, as he continues to be a flagbearer for Indian music on the international stage. From composing tracks for Hollywood to representing India at global music festivals, Vishal’s contributions to music are truly global in scope.
Conclusion: The Unstoppable Force of Vishal Dadlani
Vishal Dadlani journey is a testament to his versatility, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. From his roots in Mumbai’s indie scene to the glitz and glamour of Bollywood, he has carved a unique path, inspiring millions along the way. His music not only entertains but also connects, resonates, and uplifts.
In a world where trends come and go, Vishal remains a constant — an artist who evolves with time while staying true to his essence. His legacy is not just in the songs he’s sung or composed but in the lives he’s touched and the barriers he’s broken.

Knowing the right people, understanding the unwritten rules of the industry, and staying connected with current trends are crucial for anyone aspiring to succeed. This guide offers essential networking tips tailored for aspiring Bollywood artists. From connecting with music directors to making a name for yourself on social media, these strategies will help you build a solid foundation in the Bollywood music scene.
1. Attend Bollywood Music Events and Festivals
Importance: Bollywood hosts numerous music events throughout the year, from award shows to music festivals. These events gather the biggest names in the industry and are excellent places to make introductions and connections.
Tips: Start by attending events like the Filmfare Awards, Mirchi Music Awards, and local music festivals. Approach industry professionals with genuine interest and confidence, and keep your conversation brief and memorable.
Action Step: Prepare a short introduction about yourself and a business card with your contact details and portfolio link. It shows professionalism and leaves a lasting impression.
2. Leverage Social Media Platforms to Expand Your Network
Importance: Social media has become an essential tool for connecting with Bollywood music professionals. Platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter provide direct access to industry figures and potential collaborators.
Tips: Follow Bollywood composers, producers, and artists on Instagram and LinkedIn. Engage with their posts by commenting thoughtfully, and share your own music journey and achievements to establish an online presence.
Action Step: Use relevant hashtags like #BollywoodMusic, #IndianMusic, or #AspiringSinger to increase the visibility of your posts, and make sure your profile is optimized with a professional bio and links to your work.
3. Collaborate with Other Aspiring Artists
Importance: Collaboration can broaden your network and give you access to new audiences. Many Bollywood artists start by collaborating with other musicians, creating cover songs, or performing together at events.
Tips: Reach out to artists in your area or on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. Choose collaborators whose style complements yours, and consider working together on a Bollywood cover song or an original track.
Action Step: Attend local open mics, music jams, or online music communities. These are great places to meet other artists who are also looking to make connections in Bollywood.
4. Take Music Classes and Workshops Hosted by Bollywood Professionals
Importance: Workshops provide a unique learning experience and an opportunity to meet Bollywood insiders. Many established Bollywood artists and composers occasionally hold workshops to train upcoming talent.
Tips: Look for workshops hosted by Bollywood professionals like Shankar Mahadevan, Neha Kakkar, or Vishal Dadlani. Not only do these workshops provide learning opportunities, but they also create chances to network with both the instructors and fellow attendees.
Action Step: If you connect well with the instructors, consider following up on social media or via email. Express your gratitude and interest in learning more from them.
5. Join Bollywood Music Communities Online
Importance: Online communities and forums are great places to engage in discussions with other Bollywood music enthusiasts and gain insights from seasoned artists.
Tips: Participate in communities on Reddit, Quora, and Facebook groups dedicated to Bollywood music. Share your experiences, ask questions, and offer support to others. This creates goodwill and introduces you to a network of like-minded individuals.
Action Step: Start by sharing your knowledge and experiences without asking for anything in return. Building a reputation as a valuable member of the community will make people more willing to connect with you.
6. Attend Auditions and Casting Calls Regularly
Importance: Attending auditions not only gives you a chance to showcase your talent but also allows you to meet casting directors, producers, and other aspiring artists.
Tips: Research upcoming auditions and prepare thoroughly. Introduce yourself to the casting directors and other participants politely, and exchange contact information when appropriate.
Action Step: Even if an audition doesn’t lead to a role, follow up with the casting directors and other artists you met. Thank them for the opportunity and express your interest in future auditions.
7. Use LinkedIn for Professional Networking in Bollywood
Importance: LinkedIn is a professional platform widely used in the Bollywood industry. Many music directors, producers, and other professionals are active on LinkedIn, making it a valuable tool for aspiring artists.
Tips: Build a strong LinkedIn profile, complete with your work experience, skills, and a professional profile picture. Connect with industry professionals, send personalized connection requests, and engage with their posts to stay on their radar.
Action Step: Share relevant updates about your journey and achievements in music. Keep your posts professional, and use them as an opportunity to showcase your passion for Bollywood music.
8. Volunteer or Intern at Music Studios or Production Houses
Importance: Interning or volunteering at a music studio gives you first-hand exposure to the industry and helps you connect with composers, producers, and other industry professionals.
Tips: Reach out to studios in Bollywood hubs like Mumbai. Even if the internship is unpaid, the experience and networking opportunities can be invaluable.
Action Step: Approach each task with dedication, as showing your commitment can impress your supervisors and open doors to future collaborations or paid opportunities.
9. Build Relationships with Local Music Journalists and Bloggers
Importance: Music journalists and bloggers are well-connected with industry professionals and can often help promote emerging talent.
Tips: Introduce yourself to local journalists, and invite them to your performances. Having your work featured in music blogs or local press can boost your visibility within the Bollywood network.
Action Step: Follow journalists on social media, share their content, and reach out politely with a sample of your work to request feedback or an interview.
10. Stay Persistent and Genuine
Importance: Networking is a long-term effort, and building genuine relationships will make you memorable and trustworthy.
Tips: Avoid being overly promotional. Instead, show a sincere interest in others’ work and contribute positively to conversations.
Action Step: Consistently engage with the industry, stay connected with your contacts, and offer support or collaboration where possible.
